Six Ways Recycle Christmas Tree

One of the important objections to real Christmas trees is that they are thrown away after the first use. Some people who want a real tree choose to buy a living one and plant it later. However, this will not work for everyone.
Here are 6 ways you can recycle your Christmas trees once you are ready to take them down.

1. Find Your Local Recycling Center
Some town now have recycling services that will pick up your Christmas tree or provide drop-off locations. The tree may be used by local organizations for the other ways suggested here. You can Find a location near you by checking Earth911′s database.

2. Create Your Own Mulch
If you have access to a wood chipper, you can make your own garden mulch. Use a saw to cut the Christmas tree into smaller pieces to fit into the chipper. The wood chips can be used around your plants, in your compost bin, and for garden paths.

3. Provide a Bird Habitat
If you have the place in your backyard, Christmas trees make excellent bird habitats. Remove all of the decorations. make sure there is no tinsel or flocking.
You will need to secure the tree by using the stand or stakes and twine. Provide the birds with food by making pine cone bird feeders, using suet holders, and hanging strings of popcorn or fresh fruit.

4. Create a Fish Habitat
If you have a pond you can placed cut-up pieces of your Christmas tree on the bottom to create places for fish to hide. You can also call your state’s Department of Natural Resources to see if they need trees for this purpose.
Get Rid Of all decorations. It is especially significant that the tree is free of tinsel, and has not been flocked or treated in any other way. Read More »

Quick Repair For Leaking Pipes

It’s a nightmare that most householders hope they only have to dream about and never know – a pipe suddenly springs a leak out and water begins spraying. Fortunately, even though your first idea is “Oh my Gawd, what do I do now,” there are lots of paths to deal with this condition.

The important thing is, don’t scare. First, turn off the water supply to the leaking pipe. This may be at the fixture supply valve in front of the leak or at the important water supply valve itself. Shutting off the water will stop the water flow and give you time to think. If the plumber can’t get there for a couple of days or you don’t need time to repair it yourself, you actually do need a number of options to do a fast repair until the pipe can be properly repaired.

First, figure out where the leak out is actually coming from. Is it a pinhole or has a pipe split? If it’s a run of copper, here are some fast repairs – depending on what you need available.

Temporary Repairs

Remember, none of these are permanent fixes, but they will let you to turn the water back on until you can get the pipe fixed more permanently.
§ Stick a pencil point into the hole and break it off, so wrap the pipe with electrician’s tape. Smear some plumber’s epoxy repair putty over the tape to make sure it doesn’t leak out. Let it set for half an hour and turn the water back on.

§ Wrap a part of rubber (like an old inner tube) around the pipe over the hole, and so use a C clamp and small blocks of wood to clamp the rubber wrap tightly in place. If you need them, hose clamps around the rubber covering the hole could also be used to keep water from leaking.

§ Don’t have any old rubber that can act as a repair? Cut a part of garden hose long enough to cover the hole in the pipe plus two or three inches on each side. Slice the garden hose lengthwise and position it over the hole in the pipe. Once again, use hose clamps to keep it in place and stop water from leaking.

Permanent Repairs

These fixes take a little more time and some planning, but once you’re finished, you’ve got a permanent repair for your leaky pipe.
§ set up a pipe clamp specifically designed to repair leaking pipes. These clamps have a rubber gasket attached permanently inside the clamp, which itself is designed to fit around the leaky pipe. Simply place the clamp over the hole and tighten the integral screws, holding it in place and making a permanent seal. Pipe clamps are available at home stores.

§ Another alternative is to use flexible/braided metal tube with compression couples on each end to provide a permanent fix. A significant advantage of this repair is it will allow you to not only fix a small pinhole leak out, but it can be used to repair a longer split pipe. Because the repair tubes are flexible and will bend, they can even be used to repair a leak in a pipe elbow. The metal tubes are available in number of lengths so you should be able to fix your pipe wherever it’s holed.

To install the braided metal tube, you’re going to have to cut out the broken section of pipe, so be sure to drain all the water out of your pipes. Next, center the repair coupling against the damaged part of pipe and mark the water pipe one-inch in from each end of the coupling. Cut out the broken pipe at the marks, slide the compression couplings onto each end of the water pipe, and attach the repair coupling. Tighten the compression fittings and turn the water back on to check for leaks. Read More »

My Favourite Colors for home Decor and Why I Like Them

What colors make you feel most comfortable, happy and content in your house? Have you tested several colors before choosing on your latest wall color? Do you like to experiment with color? What are your Popular colors and how do they make you feel?

What colors should I choose?

I am moving into a new house and am not sure what colors to pick? I do want something fresh and light. I was thinking of a light yellow and light purple and white walls. Would this work for a basement room?

Warm and Cool

I’m not sure why, but my Popular colour combination is chocolate brown, rust-orange, and teal. These are the main colours in my living room now, along with beige walls. I have been told they remind people of Aztec colours, and I have to agree. For years, I have used yellow predominately and wanted something different. I still love to look at yellow in a house, especially a light spring-yellow with white, because it looks airy and fresh.

In the bedroom, I like to see a lot of beige, and find it looks especially nice with a light green or blue. Somehow it is relaxing to see a bed adorned with many off-white or beige vintage-style cushions that are varied in texture if not colour. For the body, I have always been most attracted to autumn colours, because they are earthy and make me feel calm. I love to try out with colour, and consider decorating both body and home an art form. Sometimes warm and cool colours can be combined to pleasing effect.

colours

I usually like white wals. Because it lights up shadowy areas. Now that colours are in again,I think I’d like to brighten dark rooms with a bright yellow. I also love Bright green.
